Houdini's Paper Magic - Book
Available for the first time in years!
This book belongs in your library if only because it was written by one of the most important men in our profession - but you will also find much usable material in it.
Over 190 pages, covering both close up and stage magic as performed with paper. This edition contains a foreword by the eminent Houdini scholar, E. Stanley Palm. He mentions that Houdini was particularly interested in Francis Werner's Torn and Restored Bill Trick and delighted in watching him do it. A complete description of this effect is one of the highlights of the book.
Houdini's interest in spiritualistic and psychic frauds led him to have a seance with Reiss. As a result one of the Reiss billet reading techniques is included. Several methods for performing the torn and restored cigarette paper are explained, including a method similar to that used by Doug Henning in one of his TV specials. Another effect used by Henning is also explained - The Japanese Butterflies which flit around the stage when fanned by the performer.
Other items include the Ring and Program (a masterpiece of Verbeck,) the Traveling Paper alls, Torn and Restored Paper String (as originated by Ching Ling Foo), Harry Moore's variation on the Paper Ladder and other material of interest.
Soft covers. Many illustrations.
